Brachiopods have been inhabiting the earth since the beginning of the Cambrian around 530 million years ago and are therefore among the "living fossils". Although more than 30,000 fossil and about 375 extant species are known, the phylogeny of this animal phylum has not been fully clarified to this day. A relationship with the horseshoe worms and bryozoans is most likely assumed. The conspicuous stalk usually serves the brachiopods for anchoring to solid surfaces, with this species it serves more for digging in loose substrate. The "lamp shell" is considered a delicacy in Southeast Asia because of the fleshy stalk.
The installation of the zoological specimen in the plexiglass box was made in a German taxidermy studio.
