This fantastic specimen of the Devonian coral Hexagonaria hexagona has been sanded into a shell. Only this processing and the subsequent polishing really bring out the inner workings of the coral. The mostly silicified corals of this type emerge from the surrounding Devonian reef limestone at the site in Morocco and look relatively unspectacular when found.
