With its head shape, the lantern bearer cicada is reminiscent of a reptile. Despite the striking shape, their way of life is only partially known. The first illustrations of this large species of cicada can be found as early as 1705 by Maria Sibylla Merian. The animal is widespread in the tropical regions of Central and South America.
The installation of the zoological specimen in the front glazed frame was made in a German taxidermy studio.
