This conspicuous butterfly covers up to 3600 kilometers during its autumn migrations from southern Canada to the wintering grounds in Mexico. Due to drifting across the seas, or possibly also due to the spread of its food plants by humans, the monarch butterfly is now also found in Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia, Borneo and Sumatra, as well as in the west of its original range on the Azores, Madeira and the Canary Islands . Monarch butterflies are among the best-studied butterflies in North America.
The installation of the zoological specimen in the plexiglass box was made in a German taxidermy studio.
