These beautiful ammonites have been stripped of their fossil shell remains by grinding and polishing and now show their fantastically intricate lobe lines and chambers partly filled with honey-yellow crystalline calcite. The lobe lines are the connecting seam between the chamber septa and the shell. By enlarging this line, the animals achieved a significant increase in the static load capacity of the outer shell.
