Fruiting bodies of one of about eighty species of Banksia endemic exclusively to the Australian continent. The seed stand is open, the seeds have fallen out. This species, first described in 1966 as a form of Banksia sphaerocarpa, was added to the new species Banksia scabrella in 1981 by Banksia expert Alex George. The low-growing shrubs of this species only grow in a few small isolated populations in Western Australia.
