Divisosphinctes besairiei belongs to the Perisphinctidae family and is a fossil from a subgroup of cephalopods. This fossil dates from the Upper Jurassic and is about 160 million years old. The ammonites from the Perisphincta family were recovered in the Sakaraha region of Tulear Province, southwest Madagascar. Local fishermen and farmers dig these fossils out of deep manholes in the wasteland using the simplest of means in their free time. However, this laborious work is only possible during the dry season, as the holes are flooded in the rainy season and the access roads are impassable.
