The cephalopod Nautilus pompilius lives on the steep slopes of Pacific coral reefs from Japan in the north to Australia in the south and from the Andaman Islands in the west to the Fiji Islands in the east. With its approximately 90 tentacles, it catches mostly small crustaceans, which it crushes with its hard beak.
