Maoricardium Pseudolima, known as a giant mussel or huge heart shell (English: Giant Cockle), belongs to the family of the Cardiidae (heart shells) and is characterized by their equally folding, ribbed shell structure. This large and strikingly colored shell is widespread in the western Indian Ocean and lives buried in coral sand soils. The shell presented here consists of both halves, some of which were connected to hot glue. If necessary, the halves can be removed from each other by hot water. In addition to its impressive size, the giant mussel is also known for its nutritious meat, which is considered a delicacy in some regions.
