Cypraea Tigris, known as the Tiger Kourischnecke, Tiger snail or Tigerkauri (English: Tiger Cowrie), belongs to the family of the Cypraeidae (Kourischnecken) and the Cypraeinae subfamily. This impressive sea snail reaches a size of up to 15 cm and is widespread in tropical waters of the Indopazacific. It lives up to 40 meters and occurs, among other things, along the east coast of Africa, around Madagascar, in the waters of Southeast Asia and to Polynesia. Despite its name, the pattern of this snail does not remind you of a striped tiger, but consists of a striking point drawing on a bright base color. Cypraea Tigris is the most common, but at the same time one of the most beautiful of the approximately 200 kauri or porcelain worm species. The name 'porcelain snail' is self -explanatory when you look at the high -gloss surface of the housing. This characteristic property arises because the snail continuously envelops its housing with its coat. This not only serves the limescale for the growth of the shell, but also protects them from vegetation by other organisms.
