Of these cephalopods, only the female possesses this paper-thin shell. It serves as a brood shell to protect the eggs it carries. Males, which reach a maximum size of 7 millimeters, lack a shell. This species lives cosmopolitanly in all subtropical and tropical seas. They have been observed drifting on the high seas, clinging to inanimate objects in groups or moving under the cover of, for example, jellyfish.
The installation of the zoological specimen in the plexiglass box was made in a German taxidermy studio.
The plexiglass box does not have a hanger.
